Central nod for MD programmes at GMC

PANJIM: The National Medical Commission has granted permission to Goa Medical College (GMC) to begin Doctor of Medicines (MD) programmes in Geriatric Medicine and Immunology, Hematology, and Blood Transfusion.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Thursday morning took to social media to announce the landmark achievement of GMC in the academic history. 

“I am pleased to announce that National Medical Commission has granted permission to Goa GMC to begin MD programmes in Geriatric Medicine and Immunology, Hematology, & Blood Transfusion,” Rane said. 

“I’d like to congratulate the Dean of Goa GMC and his academic team on this accomplishment,” he added.

Rane said that these PG courses are the most privileged because they are only available in a few centres and medical colleges across the country, including AIIMS. 

Doctor of Medicine in Geriatrics, also known as MD (Geriatrics) is a three-year postgraduate programme that candidates can pursue after completing MBBS. Geriatrics is the branch of medical science dealing with the prevention and treatment of diseases in older adults

MD in Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology is a postgraduate Medicine programme. This course deals with the study of antigen-antibody reactions and blood disorders.
