PANJIM: After casting his vote in the 16th Lok Sabha elections early Saturday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar accused the Congress led UPA government of attempting to destabilize the BJP government in Goa over the last two years.
Parrikar, who was among the early voters, to cast exercise his franchise from the North Goa parliamentary constituency denied there was anti-incumbency. Instead he said there is pro-incumbency for the ruling party which would see both the candidates winning the elections.
The chief minister was probably the first politician to caste his vote in Panjim. Parrikar preferred to stand in a queue and wait for his turn to vote.
“I feel there is pro-incumbency factor in Goa as people have seen the functioning of State government for last two years. People will acknowledge the performance of my government through this election,” Parrikar told reporters outside Government school Masano de Amorim polling booth soon after casting vote.
Parrikar said that it is not just Narendra Modi wave but his government’s development in last two years due to which “People will vote for Modi and BJP.”
Asserting that formation of BJP government at the Centre will help the state government to fulfill its promises, Chief Minister said that the UPA government in last two years has been trying to consistently damage and purposely harass the state government. “They are trying to put spokes in the functioning of the government. Congress’ main perception is viciousness,” Parrikar alleged.
He said that there is “inner jealousy” in the Congress and that is why it is trying to work against the state government. “These two years have been very traumatic for us. There were continuous efforts to destabilize the government,” he stated.
The chief minister recalled that Centre has always been in confrontation with the state government on issues such as financial package, posting of IAS officers and the issue of Portuguese citizenship.
