PANJIM: Ahead of 2022 State Assembly polls, the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) has directed all the banks in Goa to monitor unusual and suspicious cash transactions during the election period.
The elections to 40-assembly constituencies are due in February, next year. The CEO has already commenced preparations for the polls.
CEO IAS Kunal on Wednesday held a meeting with the representatives of various banks located in Goa. He asserted that banks play a very important role during the election period to conduct free, fair, participative, accessible, inclusive and safe election.
As per the press statement, the CEO, during the meeting, pointed out that there are chances of distribution of gifts, goodies during election period.
“CEO appealed to all the Bankers to monitor unusual and suspicious cash transaction made through the banks during the election period to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections,” the statement reads.
He urged all banks to ensure proper documentation of every transaction as well as transportation of cash through outsourced private agency or Bank Van for filing the ATMs and delivering cash at other branches.
“CEO assured that the Election machinery will promptly react to any illegal transportation and urged the Bank to take appropriate measures and also directed to submit report if any such illegal or unusual transactions are identified,” the statement added.
