PANJIM: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has directed Goa Police to intensify actions against matka operators in the State in view of Assembly elections, due next month.
On Tuesday, CEO Kunal held a meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rajesh Garg, Deputy Inspector General of Police Parmaditya and others to review the preparedness in management of law and order in the State.
As per the press statement issued, the CEO has directed police to intensify actions against matka operators and increase general surveillance at border check posts and nakas.
Further, the CEO asked the District Election Officers (DEOs) and Superintendent of Police (SP) North and South to keep a strict vigil on history sheeters and trouble mongers.
The election officer while reviewing the progress of execution of pending Non Bailable Warrants (NBW) instructed the police to fast track the same before various courts.
“The master list of repeat offenders having cases involving extortions, violation of Arms/Explosive Acts, Offences against human bodies, drug peddling, history sheeters, mischief mongers and past electoral offences were discussed,” the statement reads.
During the meeting, the CEO also enquired on the number of vulnerable locations and critical polling stations in the jurisdiction of North and South and asked to expedite the mapping process.
CEO Kunal stressed upon the creation of conducive atmosphere for conduct of the election and proper law and order maintenance is of prime importance.
