MARGAO: The first capital of Goa Chandor celebrates carnival in a unique manner reliving its glorious past by performing the Mussol dance at the households of each clan member on the second and third night of carnival.
Dressed in Indian attire of dhoti and kurta and a turban adorning the head with beads around the neck, male members of the Christian Kshatriya caste of Cotta and Cavorim in the village perform the century-old Mussol dance.
This year it will be performed at Cotta on the second day which is 4th March and will commence at around 8 pm near the main mand which is close to the ruins of the 11th Century Shiva temple and after the invocation they march to St Tiago Chapel where following a prayer the dance is performed.
