Charles Correa Foundation presentation on Kala Academy at Margao on Friday

PANJIM: The Charles Correa Foundation (CCF) will make an elaborate presentation on Kala Academy’s deteriorating state at a meeting convened by the Kala Rakhonn Mandd at Margao. 

Following the presentation, discussions would be held on the issue at the Fomento Amphitheatre of Gomant Vidya Niketan, Margao at 5 pm on Friday, July 5. 

Tanvi Karia, a renowned architect and convener of the Charles Correa Foundation will make an elaborate presentation on how the whole Kala Academy complex had been damaged for the last two decades, beginning with the first International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa in 2004. 

Kala Rakhonn Mandd secretary Cecille Rodrigues has appealed to all artistes, tiatrists, writers, musicians, dancers, singers, painters, folk artists, and other art lovers to gather in large numbers and understand the issue in depth. 

Rodrigues has also appealed to all 40 MLAs to attend this presentation and press for the demand of a White Paper on Kala Academy in the forthcoming monsoon session of Goa Assembly starting from July 15.

On Tuesday, the newly formed the Kala Rakhonn Mandd, an association of artistes, had staged protest and performed traditional ‘Garane’ in front of the Kala Academy building at Campal.

They have also demanded a White Paper on the repairs of Kala Academy building and a joint meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude to discuss the issue. They have also demanded a technical audit of the renovation work done in Kala Academy and to prepare video documentation.
