Chaturthi: Police make elaborate security arrangements in Salcete

MARGAO: Police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure peaceful Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at 37 places across Salcete. 
Besides the 200 policemen additional force has been provided from the Indian Reserve Battalion in the taluka. Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Raut Dessai informed that three IRB platoons of around 80 personnel will be deployed at the five police stations in the taluka.
Police will deploy 10 police vehicles and six Robins on motorcycles during the celebrations besides having nine watch points to keep an overview of the happenings. Besides, the police will have 16 night nakabandis. There will be 12 patrols undertaken during the day and 23 at night.
“For the last two years there has been no untoward incident and everything was smooth and we shall ensure that the same happens this year too,” DySP Dessai said.
Incidentally, the highest community celebration of Ganesh is in the jurisdiction of Margao Town Police Station where they will have to monitor 11 pandals besides the Ganesh idol installed at the police station.
Fatorda Police Station comes next with 10 community celebrations in their jurisdiction following by Maina Curtorim Police Station – seven, Cuncolim Police Station – five and Colva Police station – 4.
Canacona Ganesh Mandals educated on safe celebration measures
CANACONA: Canacona police held a meeting of Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal representatives in the taluka to educate them on measures to be adopted for a safe celebration.
The meeting was attended by the members of Sarvajanik Ganesha Mandals of Chaudi, Char-Rasta, Sristhal, Agonda, Palolem, Dhavalkhazan, Gaondongrem, Cotigao and Bodsorem.
The meeting which was chaired by PI Sudesh Narvekar, in charge of Canacona Police Station later handed over an advisory to the mandals to avoid any untoward incident during the festival.
