VASCO: The Chicalim gram sabha on Sunday discussed the draft Agriculture Policy and decided to file its suggestions and objections to the Directorate of Agriculture. Gram sabha member Rui Araujo said that it was very vital that an agricultural policy be maintained in a village like Chicalim known for its biodiversity.
He demanded that agricultural land should not be allowed to be sold to non-agriculturists while paddy fields and khazan lands should not be allowed to be sold nor transferred as it could cause disaster to the entire State.
Araujo suggested that the people be motivated to cultivate their fields and to set up farmers clubs in all the villages in this direction.
He said that all the suggestions and inputs will be submitted to the Directorate of Agriculture. Panchayat member Francisco Nunes raised the issue of haphazard parking in different areas of the village particularly double parking at Naquelim, thereby causing traffic congestion and posing danger to motorists, students and pedestrians. A resolution was passed to take up this issue before Department of Transport and also to meet the Vasco Traffic Cell PI so as to find solutions to traffic congestion.
Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav told the gram sabha members that the village panchayat will soon launch its website and urged them to make maximum use of it to avail various services or pay their taxes online.
