OLD GOA: The decision of the BJP government to set up an IT city at Kadamba Plateau came in for sharp criticism at the Chimbel gram sabha on Sunday with the villagers voicing opposition to the project and demanding that it should not be allowed to come up in the village.
Raising the issue, Tukaram Kunkolkar opined that the earlier Congress government had tried to set up a health city at the Kadamba plateau on the land which originally belonged to the Agriculture Department.
“We had opposed the health city then and now, too, we are opposing the IT city as the decision has been taken without consulting the panchayat and the locals,” Kunkolkar said while demanding that the panchayat should send a copy of the resolution to the government citing opposition to the project, which could have major implications for the villagers.
“The panchayat authorities, instead, should stick to the earlier demand of asking the government to allot the land to the tribal population of Chimbel,” Kunkolkar added.
Earlier, the panchayat authorities were cornered for not including a rectified resolution, which was wrongly recorded in the minutes of gram sabha held in August, 2014.
“The previous secretary had assured that the rectified resolution would be highlighted in the minutes of the October gram sabha, but it finds no mention,” Kunkolkar complained.
The current panchayat secretary Ashish Naik said he cannot do anything about the issue and urged the villagers to approach the Director of Panchayats if they feel aggrieved.
The issue of the road dug by the electricity department for laying underground cables was also raised with the villagers demanding that the panchayat should ask the power officials to immediately repair the road, which has been left unrepaired for many months, as it is causing inconvenience.
The villagers also demanded that the electricity department should not be allowed to undertake further road digging in the village.
