MARGAO: The Chinchinim village panchayat on Tuesday razed down an illegal house at Mingfall ward under police protection.
The demolition squad which was requisitioned by the Salcete BDO office following a representation by the panchayat body completed the demolition exercise without any untoward incident.
Salcete BDO Manuel Barretto told media persons at the site that the demolition squad was requisitioned by his office following a representation from the Chinchinim panchayat.
A local resident Ceo Fernandes said that the illegal house has been finally demolished, nearly five months since the residents petitioned the authorities concerned. “The residents had been following up with the authorities since the last five months to get the structure demolished,” he said.
The local residents have now called upon the authorities to get the land restored to its original condition. “Paddy fields and the adjoining houses will be the most hit if the land is not restored. We will continue to follow-up on the issue with the authorities,” he added.
