MARGAO: Margao city fathers are yet again heading to Mumbai early next month for training in solid waste management. This time, they will attend a three-day specialised training program on solid waste management (including medical waste and e-waste).
They will be led by Chairperson Arthur D’Silva and accompanied by Chief Officer Deepali Naik. However, the list of visitors finds no mention of the sanitary inspector Viraj Arabekar ~ who is primarily responsible for tackling the city’s ever-growing waste.
Sources in the know said the training program, including the stay and to and fro travel will cost the civic body nothing less than Rs 90,000.
The specialised program, which gets underway on June 3, is aimed at enhancing capacities of municipal bodies towards integrated system of solid waste management for implementation of the compliances desired under the rules.
The participants will be kept abreast about the technical and managerial aspects of solid waste management, besides medical waste handling and management.
The program hosted by the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies of the All India Institute of Local Self Government, Mumbai, will also explain to the participants the social aspects in solid waste management and discuss citizens’ participation in the process.
