Chodnekarancho Awaz organized a public meeting on Wednesday
to vehemently oppose the recent decision of ferry ticket price hike, which has
ignited outrage among the islanders.
The meeting, attended by a substantial number of residents and fervent social activists, brought to the forefront the deep-seated frustration with the government’s handling of the essential ferry services, which have been marred by inefficiencies. The recent hike in ferry ticket fees only added to the grievances of Chorao’s inhabitants.
Islanders and social activists fervently expressed their concerns. They decried the government’s inability to provide efficient and reliable ferry services that are critical to the daily lives of Chorao’s residents, many of whom rely on the ferry for commuting to the mainland for work, education, and other essential needs.
Speakers at the gathering lamented the burdensome impact of the fare increase, which has placed an additional financial strain on the islanders. They argued that the government should prioritize enhancing the quality and accessibility of ferry services rather than burdening the residents with higher costs.
During the meeting, Chodnekarancho Awaz issued an ultimatum, demanding the immediate rollback of the ferry fees hike within the next 8 days. They emphasized that failure to meet this deadline would result in organized protests in front of the River Navigation Department.
