Chorao ferry too small

CHORAO: Despite being one of the busiest ferry routes in the State, the deployment of a small ferry-boat along the Chorao-Ribandar route for the past few days has not only taken residents of Chorao Island by surprise but it has also hampered ferry services along the route.
Given the heavy traffic along the Chorao-Ribandar route, authorities had deployed four new ferry-boats along the route. However for the past few days, a small ferry-boat ‘Kerim’ has been pressed into service and the move to send a smaller ferry has irked residents and motorists, as well as crew on other ferries plying along the route.
“Since the speed of this old ferry is very slow, other ferry boats have to travel slow to make way for the slow ferry boat. This has hampered ferry services along the route,” informed a crew member of one ferry.
“Besides, the old ferry boat gets full with a few passengers and two vehicles. We had requested the RND  about the inconvenience caused by the deployment of this ferry but the department does not seem bothered to deploy a larger ferry, said the crew member.
