PONDA: The Ponda Christmas Festival Committee distributed food grain packets to needy ahead of the upcoming Christmas festival. The festival committee is celebrating Christmas festival since the year 1982.
During Covid-19 pandemic, the committee decided to supply food grain to all the needy people and this is the fourth year. Cultural coordinator Agostinho Fernandes said various programmes are organised to mark the Christmas festival this year including carol singing, tiatr Konkani drama and various other programmes as part of the Christmas Celebration Week.
On December 24, a crib competition has been organised with first prize of Rs 10,000, second of Rs 8000 and third of Rs 6000 beside consolation prizes. For Star competition, the first prize is of Rs 8000, second of Rs 5000, third prize is of Rs 3000, besides consolation prizes.
On December 25, Mount Carmel Parishioners Band will entertain the people while on December 26 Konkani Tiatr ‘Noxibantiem’ by Prince Jacob will be staged. On December 27, there will be a programme by catechism children while on December 28, there will be carol singing and folk dance.
