MARGAO: Former PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao on Saturday ignored the police summons to appear at the Colva police station on Saturday morning, but sent a reply to them saying he is not bound to make any statement in the murder of the Chennai tourist since he is not an eyewitness.
The Colva police had on Friday issued a summon to Alemao to appear at the police station at 11 am today for recording his statement in the Chennai tourist murder case on grounds that he is acquainted with the facts and circumstances of the case.
Taken aback by the police action, Alemao shot a letter to the Colva Police inspector, PI Nilesh Rane saying he is not an eyewitness in the murder case and hence he is not bound to make any statement before the police.
He further stated in the letter that his criticism was against the manner of investigations by the Colva police, especially in view of the escape of the arrested bouncer from the custody of the police. The letter further called upon the police to investigate the matter thoroughly.
The Colva police had apparently summoned Churchill to the police station for recording his statement after he made a press briefing that a relative of a Minister was allegedly involved in the death of the Chennai tourist at a Colva shack last month.
Replying to a question, Churchill said he had moved the South Goa Sessions Court for bail as he had strong suspicion that the police would arrest him in the Varca road digging case under the pretext of recording his statement in the Chennai tourist murder case. “How can the police call me to give a statement in the Chennai tourist murder case? Are we living in a democracy? Let the police investigate the matter. I had only aired my suspicions”, he said.
