PANJIM: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in a raid conducted in Sada-Mormugao seized 2100 cartons of foreign cigarettes worth Rs 50.40 lakh from two passengers.
Lector Marscarenhas, Assistant Director, DRI-Goa Unit said the raid was conducted based on intelligence collected by the Goa unit that Indonesian-made cigarettes were being smuggled in the state from Dubai.
He said that the consignment being smuggled had come to the unaccompanied baggage centre at Sada. He further said that it appears that the passengers went on a short trip to Dubai only to smuggle the cigarettes.
