A news article titled “Clear Electricity Pole at Varkhandem” was highlighted in this column on October 23. Accordingly, branches of an adjoining tree were touching live electrical wires near the electricity pole situated in the vicinity of Bank of Baroda at Varkhandem, Ponda.
There was every possibility of a short circuit taking place sooner or later thereby leading to adverse consequences. Taking a note of this published issue, the Electricity Department chopped the said branches of tree lying in close proximity to the main electrical wires. With the said favourable action, a major tragedy that ought to take place at any instance was averted.
The much needed safety has been assured to public at large. I am thankful to the Electricity Department for its positive action in this sensitive issue and hope related instances that might exist at other locations in Ponda as well are also dealt on a priority basis.
