PONDA: Borim and Shirshirem locals have demanded that the Ponda police curb the rising menace of visitors, especially youth and young girls at some scenic waterfalls at Sidhanath Parvat at Borim .
The youth come to frolic in the refreshing water of the waterfalls but often end up fighting among themselves and also teasing the girls.
Locals have requested the police to patrol the waterfall area and curb the nuisance that affects the locals around.
The monsoons give opportunity to beautiful waterfalls around Borim area, with Mannawal, and Tannamule near Sidhanath Parvat, among the most prominent.
Locals had also filed complaints in this regard with the Ponda police and have urged the police to free their village from fights and skirmishes, besides help solve problem of garbage and waste left behind after merry-making.
Locals say the picnickers consume alcohol and dump bottles, breaking many of the glass bottles into the village gutters.
The gutters and surrounding areas are often found filled with plastic and paper waste, besides leftover food, that attract stray dogs. The locals have also demanded a curb on activities that disturb the neighbourhood.
Many were of the opinion that drinking near the waterfall should be banned.
