The entire Panjim municipal market area is full of filth. The attached picture was taken at 9 am, and there is so much of filth and clutter all around the market area. Is this how a market should look when people visit for their purchases?
Ideally, the market area needs to be cleaned up by the sweepers before 7 am so that shoppers can move around hassle free and it is a good experience to visit the market. All the work going on in the city to make it a Smart City makes no sense if the city officials neglect timely cleanliness and ideally need to keep sweepers around the market all day as there are heavy footfalls throughout the day.
Shopkeepers need to keep their own dustbins and clear them to help the administration in its efforts and those not abiding by the rules of cleanliness need to be penalised. Regular visits by the Mayor and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) officials are required to maintain cleanliness.
