It was a privilege to the Goa Chief Minister to be in the midst of Bollywood personalities for the IFFI inaugural function. Indeed! It is also an honour for our government to spend around Rs 18 crore for the festival even though some work was seen incomplete on the inaugural day.
But it’s sad, in the midst of all the glamour and IFFI show biz, the common man interest stands on the back burner and the impression of Goa government one gets is that of a “bikhari” because our roads and highway remains potholed endangering the precious life of people going about in search of their daily bread.
But who cares. All the promises made by the PWD WhatsApp Minister have flown by the monsoon winds and, probably as some say, the special tar from abroad has not arrived yet. Now comes the annual great religious event, “Goenchea Saibachem Fest”, a must for some Goans to visit the shrine of “Bhagevont Xavierachi Khud” for reverence and favours received. From November 24, all traffic will flow to Old Goa. The tourists and visitors from all over the world will flock to Old Goa and the pilgrims too.
The new highway is still incomplete and in dangerous conditions not worthy to travel by. The Ribandar link road to Old Goa as well is unsafe for two Wheelers who will travel with their families at their own risk. Amidst all these challenges what the common man has to face is lackadaisical attitude of politicians in power who do not want to admit their errings but take the Goenkars for a ride with promises and assurance: “ami korteleanv, ami polletanv, zaunche asa iea disanim”. Till then we Goenkars wait in vain and die in despair.
