MARGAO: The heirs of the Crasto family staged a protest in the fields opposite the new district hospital building and demanded that the fields, which were filled with mud, be restored to their original condition.
A police complaint in this regard had been filed earlier in Margao. Balduino Rodrigues, one of the heirs of the property, had filed a police complaint against unknown persons for criminally trespassing into their paddy field surveyed under Chalta No 7 of P T Sheet No 37 and 40 and illegally dumping mud on the bandh in the field in Chovot-Donvondem, Margao.
The Crasto family members had organised a silent protest with placards erected in the property. The family has alleged that Inacia Crasto and two others were the tenants of the land and had cultivated the same for the past many years.
“After an inquiry, it was learnt that Jose Bento Rodrigues, who is also a heir of the property, had dumped the soil into the property and later leased it to Dominic Pereira,” said a Crasto heir, “adding, “We don’t know what the person is planning to do, but prima facie it looks like the local MLA Vijai Sardesai is backing the whole capture of our land.”
The heirs of the property have also decided to meet the District Collector to demand justice in the matter.
Meanwhile, the flying squad attached to the South Goa Collectorate has visited the disputed property. Further investigations are underway.
