Curchorem locals complain of irregular garbage collection

CURCHOREM: Residents of many areas coming under the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) jurisdiction are complaining about irregular garbage collection for the last many days.

They said that despite paying the garbage collection fees their waste is not being collected. Replying to the issue, CCMC Chairperson Pradip Naik said that the council’s contract with the waste collection contractor has been extended for three months after it expired in May.

“The council has taken the approval from the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) for the extension of contract and the new tender will be floated very soon and then it will be collected regularly,” Naik said.

Meanwhile, Khamamoll Ward Councillor Prassana Bhende said that it is learnt that due to shortage of the staff with the contractor, the garbage collection has been hampered.

“I will bring it to the notice of the authorities the complaints of residents. The area at the end of railway foot overbridge in may ward which was filled with garbage including plastic is removed with the help of two labourers of the council,” said Bhende  He urged the residents not to throw the garbage in the open.
