Fatal by-pass road at the Dena Bank Branch, Pomburpa

During the era gone by when cycles, bullock-carts and caminhaos were the mode of transport there was no worry of safety problem on this Y bypass road.
Nowadays day by day people are dying in road accidents on Goan roads. This zone near the Dena Bank has become a worrisome of public motoring safety. Seen in the picture the main road and the bypass road has joined marking Y shape road.
Since the opening of the Corjuem and Calvim bridges to the public the traffic movement has tremendously increased on this route and during peak office hours the traffic gets jam at some parts. The bypass road leads to the church, St. Elizabeth School, church football ground and the infamous Pomburpa spring.
After the beautification of the spring all walks of people, including foreign and domestic tourists, visit the site to get a glimpse of the historical spring. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays there is a mad rush of crowd zooming on motorcycle at this bypass route. The traffic coming out through the bypass road to the main road is so much that the motorists do not stop to look if the road ahead is clear and proceed recklessly. Often they drive under good or bad influence ignoring ahead the main road traffic movement. On my occasions accidents take place but till now no fatal mishaps have taken place. If prompt attention is not given, one day heavy fatalities are likely to take place at this sensitive zone.
Do our Ministers, MLAs, Sarpanches, Panchas and Zillas really care for public safety?
It is very painful to see that the authorities have installed speed breakers where they were not necessary. I hope that the speed breakers will be installed on this sensitive zone immediately before anyone’s life is lost.
