PERNEM: The residents, local authority turned blind eye as the foreigners took an initiative to clean the famous Arambol sweet water lake.
After cleaning the Arambol Beach, a group of foreigners took up the cleaning of the famous sweet water lake this week. However, since they did not receive any direct help from the concern authorities, they had to literally make letter to Tourism Department, asking them to provide help in cleaning the lake.
The sweet water lake of Arambol is located at the take point of Arambol Beach and since the water here is sweet, many people prefer having bath and sitting at lake side rather than relaxing on the beach. But since the place was littered with garbage such as plastic bottles and bags, cleaning the lake before the rains was a need.
A group of Russian foreigners under the banner of “Clean Arambol”, first held the drive to clean the Arambol Beach and later took up the cleaning of the sweet water lake with help of the local panchayat body and Tourism Department.
As they began with cleaning of the lake, the most difficult task for them was to transport the garbage from the lake to main road as no vehicle can reach here and people had to walk almost for one and half kilometres to reach at the main road.
These foreigners first approached the Arambol Village Panchayat who supplied them the garbage bags and then the Tourism Department who provided the workers to clean and move the garbage.
One of the participant named Jade said, “The most difficult task was to move the garbage from the lake as it is very far from the main road. We received help from the village panchayat and Tourism Department, wherein panchayat supplied us the garbage bags and Tourism Department sent some workers.”
“I love Mother Nature. Clean ocean, beaches, mountains and the trees. Everyone enjoys being with Mother Nature but not everyone takes care of it. I love India, the Indian culture, food and the people. I wasn’t born in India but I feel like I have an Indian soul. If you want clean country, you need to start right where you are. So I started the projects in Arambol,” Jade added.
