Cricket icon and Rajya Sabha member Sachin Tendulkar has suggested creation of dedicated hawker zones in Mumbai (Herald November 2). According to the legend, having a dedicated hawker / food zone will help clear pedestrian area in and around railway stations. It is observed that in the towns in Goa, hawkers are seen all over the place with handcarts and vendors at bus stands selling anything from vegetable to fruits and even potted plants. These vendors many a times occupy the entire pavement (as seen in the photograph), which force the pedestrians to walk on the roads. There needs to be dedicated space for hawkers so that the pavements are kept free for pedestrians.
