MARGAO: With a ban imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles within the town limits during peak hours as per the orders of District Magistrate, heavy vehicles loaded with goods can be seen moving on several roads of the town, particularly the Station Road, Cine Late area and Khareband thus causing traffic jams on the congested corridors of town.

Even as notice boards have been displayed by Traffic authorities informing the public that no heavy vehicles are allowed on the concerned roads, a large number of heavy vehicles are seen entering these areas flouting the rules.

No entry for heavy vehicle boards have been displayed at the entrance of Gogal Housing Board but at peak hours or any other time, heavy vehicles enter into these areas alleged M A Raiker, a resident of Margao.

He said that these heavy vehicles which enter into a banned area to   unload the goods cause a lot of traffic congestion and the police remain silent.

It is said that the trucks and other heavy transport vehicles are not allowed inside the town during the stipulated period of time as per the orders issued by District Magistrate but since there are no Traffic Police personnel deployed to check their entry, they continue to ply along the busy roads such as Station Road, Cine Lata,  Khareband etc.

A prominent citizen from Margao Suresh Naik said that being the commercial centre, several companies are located in the heart of the town.

He said, “Since some marble and other stone industries are located away from the town, trucks loaded with marbles ply on these roads, where the heavy vehicles have been prohibited to enter. However, they enter to deliver the material at any available time and there is a lot of traffic congestion on the road at Davorlim, Sao Jose de Areal and Fatorda.
