The Public Works Department (PWD) has finally installed new speed-limit boards along the highways. This was done after five years, since the government notified speed-limits following the notifications issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
As per reports, about 4,000 signboards are expected to be installed along the National and State highways. Because of the delay, for reasons best known to the PWD, tens of accidents have occurred leading to loss of human lives and injuries.
The bonanza was that the traffic cell collected about Rs 11 lakh as fine from traffic offenders. The PWD could have helped to bring down the accident cases had it simultaneously got the signboards installed, by negotiating with the same contractor/s, as soon as stretches of the highways were completed.
