Is Swachh Bharat Abhiyan only for headlines?

Being in power does not mean you just make tall promises in the name of plastic ban and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in order to grab front page headlines.
It means that one must ensure a proper follow through and see that the mission is accomplished or is in progress to achieve set targets.
Recently my visit to the Civil Registrar Cum Sub Registrar office in Mapusa was an eye-opener, as it is as dirty as one can imagine.
What amuses me is the attitude of the government officials who pass through all this filth and yet choose to turn a blind eye. Ironically, when these government officials themselves care a damn about the PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative, what can you expect from common man?
I try to educate people around me in whatever way I can to minimize use of plastic and to help each other in inculcating civic sense.
Unfortunately, I see no help from the current government.
When in Margao I saw that plastic bags are still very much in use, specially at the recently-inspected Margao wholesale fish market. Its surrounding area is still an eye sore and presence of waste bins at public places and their collection facilities is still non-existent.
So dear government officials, it is high time to put your power to good use so that we too can say that we had good leaders during our time!
