LED street lights lose light

The Street Light National Program (SLNP) implemented by EESL seemed to have got off to a good start in Goa before the elections as conventional lights were replaced by LED lights in areas where our politicians wanted to have a hold of the votes. After the elections, what we are finding today, this SLNP programme seems to have come to a halt with excuses of “No Stock” to replace the ones remaining in areas in villages neglected by politicians. Even existing tube lights in villages are not being replaced giving excuses of LED lights replacement programme leaving areas in villages in total darkness with no action coming from the local bodies.
While I had made a fervent appeal and demand to our previous MLA to ensure full LED lighting of areas in my wards and village, the same never materialised except on the main Benaulim to Cavelossim MDR road owing to the “No Stock” reply.
If the government is really serious about the SLNP initiative, then the deadline of May 2017 should be adhered to and all houses in villages should be provided with street lights under the scheme.
