MARGAO: Unable to bear with the filth and squalor for some time now, residents of Madel on Sunday demonstrated against the authorities inability to deal with the problem of sewage spilling on the roadside and gave a ten-day ultimatum, failing which they threatened ‘further action’.
Although the sewage line is faulty and work on laying the new line has commenced, the mess created by the old line continues to irritate the residents, given the fact that every new building or house is given connection to the old line.
“For the past about 15 days the whole area has been stinking and we cannot even live in peace and hence had to take this drastic action,” said Anthony, one of the locals.
He said they were just bringing their problem to notice of the authorities hoping some action would be taken, failing which they will take the next step in the next ten days.
“We will not cause trouble to people by blocking the road, but we have thought of something unelse,” he added.
