Margao Municipal garden, a haven for anti-socials

The boundary wall of the Margao municipal garden has become a haven for beggars, drunkards, gamblers and other antisocial elements. The ledge is used by beggars and wastrels during the day as a bunk bed while at night it becomes a tabletop for alcoholics and cardsharps. There have been cases of molestation too by criminals and for children playing at the Aga Khan park, these people are a major nuisance. Organised begging syndicates use the compound wall as an office and conference area in the evenings. The Margao town police station is just a stone’s throw away from the park yet no action is being taken by the law enforcement agencies to rid the park area of this menace. Are they waiting for a murder or two to happen before they wake up from their slumber?
