New Vaddem slope junction, an accident-prone zone!

Several accidents have taken place at the New Vaddem slope junction at Vasco in the past. Here the steep slope from New Vaddem heads directly to the main road connecting the Port Town to Cortalim.

This is a very busy road with light and heavy traffic either entering or leaving Vasco town. As a result, this junction has become accident prone. There are no traffic signals nor any speed-breakers or rumblers on the road. The Traffic Police control the flow of traffic during the rush hours. To make things worse, the road appears to have been dug up for some work but has not been tarred again as seen in the photo.

As a result the loose soil on the road could lead to two-wheeler riders losing control at the turn. The authorities’ concern need to take steps that are necessary to make this junction accident-free. If need be, this junction could also be declared as an “accident-prone zone”.
