CURCHOREM: Huge uncovered manholes located few metres away from the three road junction near Curchorem Fire Station and several iron rods protruding from many manholes, right from Fire Station, Curchorem to Curchorem Municipal Market are posing severe threat to the safety of motorists using the Chandor-Curchorem road, specially those riding two-wheelers.
One can see several potholes on one end of the road, which is under construction, left uncovered, posing threat to pedestrians as well as motorists.
Moreover, to make matters worse, the contractor have also failed to put up any signage or display boards to warn people of the danger that lies ahead, specially warning of the protruding rods .
Incidentally, the rods being dark in colour cannot be easily seen my motorists and there is every possibilities of riders running over the rods and injuring themselves.
Recently, a four-wheeler driver from Sanguem complained that the rods pierced his tyre, causing puncture and damage, after he accidentaly drove over the protruding rods on the road.
Further, motorists face grave danger, specially during the night, as the potholes, nor the rods are properly visible due to the absence of street lights and the lack of any markings or sign boards makes matters worse.
Citizens have asked the local body to initiate action.
