For what our clean Corporation City of Panaji, the good offices of Director of Environment, the owners to whomsoever it may belong are looking and waiting for this mango tree which may unexpectedly drastically comes crashing down any moment of time no matter what weather conditions are, either hot summers or heavy storming monsoon showers, one never knows the loss of innocent lives of passersby.
It is not necessary to point out the exact location of this look-alike monster tree as everyone and all are very well aware of this dangerous tree terribly bending downwards to the road at the side of Our Lady of Mary Immaculate Conception Church, Panjim to be précise facing to the road going straight up to Altinho appearing very fearful.
There is decade-old historical well at its bottom left side corner for which the bones of the dead people were dumped in the years gone by.
But today, we see the garbage and other particles dumped in it, mixed with water instead, which go unnoticed or unchecked by the concerned authority, Corporation City of Panaji or any authority to whomsoever it may belong by virtue of legal rights, any Tenancy Act of Law or else.
Furthermore, no doubt it gives large and wide shadow to people walking tirelessly, taking rest, seating on the sides of the walls of the well, and for some to park their four wheelers under its shadow. But wow! Not forgetting traffic control police sentinels taking advantage of this corner full of shadow of this tree to hide in between the well and wrongly parked vehicles to issue challans, by collecting fines for not wearing helmet from the two wheeler riders. But this is not only on weekdays but even on weekends after Sunday masses, which is a shame, very well knowing two wheelers don’t wear helmet to attend Sunday masses which appears Traffic Police are collecting fines as a revenue in terms of fines to fill their pockets and government treasury but not at all for the love, safety and interest of public life taking undue advantage of this mango tree, which is a shame to the Home Department, which is requested not to allow the Traffic Police to do so. Why so much of neglect on their part of duties. Further irrespective to talking about the mango tree, it is the need of the hour to provide speed-breakers with the Zebra Crossing for the pedestrian to walk free from fear from both the ends starting near this mango tree upto the end of the small (bridge like) called Ponte de Linhares at Cortim, Panjim.
Therefore, all the concerned are earnestly appealed to come together, carry out the inspection of this area, come into terms and conditions, understandings, compromise over the matter whatever care may be taken to do the further necessary formalities in taking required official permission from the good offices of Forests Department, Panjim for cutting branches of this sour monster mango tree by lessening the weight or get rid of it by cutting from top to bottom to save human lives and further giving wide, bright, decent and beautiful view to this centre point of Panjim City.
