Panjim in a state of total neglect

Panjim City is really undergoing degradation in all respects and is crumbling.  All over the city the footpath pavers are cracked or broken/missing, which makes walking on them difficult and dangerous.

18 June Road, the one special shopping street of Panjim is in a terrible state.  There are encroachments on the footpaths; the gutter chamber covers are not properly aligned with the road surface making parking of vehicles also a difficult task.

It is very important to have a regular inspection and upkeep of the foot paths. Being a capital city there should have been gleaming streets, footpaths, street furniture, amenities, etc. Alas, we see none of these. In spite of being one of the tiniest capital cities of the country, our city officials find it difficult to maintain and keep it clean and smart.

The recent survey by Indian Swachhta League has classified Panjim at position 224 whereas it was below 100 five years ago. This should give everyone an idea how the administration has failed in the upkeep of the city. The city limits are just a few square kilometres and all resources should have been put aside to make the city one of the cleanest and well managed cities in India.

One of the worst stretches of the road is one leading from Caculo circle via the PWD office, all the way to Tonca junction.

Having plans to have smart streets is fine, but that does not mean essential maintenance of the entire city can be shelved or ignored. That is what has been happening as there is total lack of essential upkeep in proper Panjim.

All over the city the pavers on the footpaths need to replaced, proper alignment of chamber covers needs to be done and everything looking ugly, including garbage piles, irrelevant signboards, dangling cables of private providers, etc need to be completely cleared to beautify the city.
