In Goa, many traders display a notice in their shops that goods once sold will not be taken back or exchanged.
The same instructions are even printed on the bills and cash memo’s receipt books. Such a message displayed is against the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
Every consumer has a right for an exchange or return of goods that are defective, especially consumer goods which are in sealed condition.
The Department of Consumer Affairs can give the traders the direction not to display the message in their shops that “Goods once sold will not be taken back or exchanged,” in the interest of the consumers in State.
