Through the column of your weekly “Citizen Herald” I wish to highlight the fact that although parking space is very difficult to find in most of the major cities of Goa, especially Margao, the parking lot around the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) building is being occupied not just by the vehicles of the MMC officials and staffers but also by a dozen odd rent-a-bike operators who permanently park their vehicles numbering over 50 to 60 two-wheelers occupying vital parking space in this city.
Hence, I urge the upright sincere hardworking and efficient MMC Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar to immediately conduct a thorough vigilance inquiry if the MMC has not granted any permission to this activity and initiate prompt stern punitive action to this illegal connivance amongst the MMC staff and these rent-a-bike operators.
Also the South Goa Transport Department’s enforcement wing along with the Goa Traffic Police should immediately crack down on the illegal plying of private vehicles functioning as commercial transport vehicles or taxis within Margao and its surrounding areas after 6.30 pm, especially near the Margao Comunidade building as this incurs a severe loss of revenue to the government exchequer as the private vehicles are illegally operating as taxis sans the mandatory permit and licence from the concerned authorities who have turned a blind eye to this menace for the past several months.
