Repair non-functional CCTVs on priority basis

At most of the State’s towns and city closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) were installed some years back as a precautionary measure. However, in due course of time they stopped functioning due to lack of maintenance. However, such a situation turns undesirable whenever the need ought to arise for initiating the investigation process on occurrence of any untoward incidents like crime, rape, burglary, etc.

In the process, investigation tends to be a difficult task due to non-availability of necessary clues over the CCTV cameras which are found non-functional on most of the occasions.

During the recent murder of a jeweller in Margao, the CCTV cameras along the road could not deliver any clues for the Margao Police and also to the officials of Crime Branch as they remained non-functional. As a result, the investigating team had to rely on cameras installed at the neighbouring shops and establishments. Considering the role played by the CCTV cameras in expediting the investigations pertaining to any incident, it is of great importance for the concerned authorities to assure that CCTVs lying in non-functional condition along the roadsides are repaired at once on priority basis. Regular maintenance work in this regard must be taken in hand.

Let us hope that the concerned competent authorities would take a note of this important matter and initiate immediate positive steps to repair the non-working CCTVs at different important locations in the State so that they prove beneficial in times of need. Prompt favourable action in this important matter is awaited.
