MARGAO: Fed up with the Public Works Department failing to undertake the work of painting the speed breaker in the village that was the cause of many accidents, Sarzora Panchayat members along with some villagers painted it on August 24.
Sarzora Sarpanch disclosed that the “PWD had initially promised to paint the speed breaker and even installed reflectors on it to protect motorists as many people particularly two-wheeler riders had met with an accident there.
“However, till date they failed to paint it and kept giving us evasive answers with the Junior Engineering even asking us to contact the MLA,” said Sabita Mascarenhas adding that fed up with this attitude the panchayat decided to paint the speed breaker.
Three panchayat members, including Sabita supervised the work that was done by some village youngsters. As the speed breaker was painted one passer-by asked the sarpanch to repair the culvert near the railway gate that is threatening to collapse.
