Goa continues to be a lawless tourist destination. A case in point is the unhindered parking and driving on the Caranzalem Beach which has become a fad in recent months, despite Goa Police patrols aimlessly driving up and down and burning public money by way of fuel. Almost every evening, locals as well as tourists drive their vehicles right on to the beach and park. They then smoke, play loud music, often dangerously whiz past evening walkers and cause other forms of nuisance. This is dangerous to children, senior citizens and people who come to spend some quality peaceful time on the beach.
On Saturday, June 9, 2018, a tourist from West Bengal parked his Volkswagen vehicle close to the water at Caranzalem beach, which nearly got washed away. Miraculously, the tourist family, which indulged in such a foolish misadventure, was saved. The vehicle was later retrieved by an excavator. It was shocking that India’s Number One tourist destination had no lifeguards, wardens, or police to warn the tourists, not to indulge in such stupid actions.
The Goa Traffic Police have been intimated under the Traffic Sentinel Scheme about the violations by the vehicle owner, and others who park and drive on the beach.
These violations include parking/driving on the beach and posing danger to lives of children, senior citizens, families and people on the beach.
The Traffic Police and the North Goa Collector have to act against the violators and also erect a signboard near Hotel Swim Sea Caranzalem, banning vehicles from going on to the sand, with warning of requisite fine for the first and subsequent offences.
Two wheelers and even fish trucks drive right up to the waterfront on regular basis. This too should be stopped on the entire beach stretch from Miramar to Caranzalem and also other beaches of Goa, to prevent the degradation of the beaches and prevent threat to human life.
