Along with major cities and towns, stray cattle menace has become a serious matter in villages as well. In Ponda and its neighbouring villages, situation in this regard has been deteriorating day by day.
The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) as also the village panchayats at the respective jurisdictions have failed to deal firmly with this growing menace. As a result, vehicular traffic faces great inconvenience and trouble amidst cattle occupying the road.
Cattle freely move along the road near two-pillars at Queula Village (in Ponda). Over the years, this serious matter has remained neglected and the Village Panchayat of Queula has failed to initiate favourable action in the interest of public at large.
Even at the village of Adpai (also in Ponda), cattle freely proceed along the road not only during the day but even at night.
It is time for the village panchayats at the concerned jurisdictions to deal with this menace seriously so that accidents (due to presence of cattle on road) are reduced to the minimum. Of course, precious human lives should not be taken for granted at any instance.
The Directorate of Panchayats as a competent authority should depute its representatives to various jurisdictions in order to get acquainted with the existing situation in this regard. Panchayats failing to construct cattle pounds and impound cattle should be taken to task without any discrimination. No doubt, vehicle riders must be assured safety on a permanent basis.
