It is observed that at every concrete electric pole in the port town of Vasco there is a maze of wires coming from every direction as seen in the photograph. These wires which carry power can prove dangerous to the citizens as they can snap and fall onto the ground due to the strong winds in the monsoon.
It may be recalled that last year a two-wheeler rider lost his life after an old Ashoka tree along the Swatantra Path came crashing down and the rider’s neck got entangled in the electric wires from the electric pole which was brought down by the tree. Underground electric cabling needs to be carried out on a war-footing. This will also eliminate the power outages and voltage fluctuation which the residents of Vasco have to face on a regular basis during the monsoon.
It is pertinent to note that the Swatantra Path in the town gets crowded during the Saptah festival, Carnival, Shigmo and Narkasur parade and any such accident can cause damage to life and property if underground power cabling is not carried out.
