Water pipe hanging dangerously from a building at Margao

The building society doesn’t seem to care about the risks it can pose

It has been reported that the Margão Municipal Council is concerned about the town’s dilapidated buildings as well as those facing garbage or debris strewn nearby, where they are residing.

During my last visit to Goa, I visited a store in Margão town located on the ground floor of Mayfair Society, situated behind Times Square building. The building appears to be in good condition, but there is a long water pipe hanging dangerously from its roof top. On a strong windy day, this pipe could break free and collapse to the ground below, causing damages or even wounding passersby.

The building society doesn’t seem to care about the risks it can pose. In erstwhile Bombay, where I was born and raised, it is incumbent on a society to care for its own building (s) as well as its immediate surroundings. The society members must never ignore or even contribute to a problem that could have dangerous repercussions. Failure to comply would not only invite unnecessary trouble, but also punishment from the law.

I, therefore, request the authorities concerned to take a serious view of this problem and do whatever is necessary to fix this dangling pipe. Prompt action could make a huge difference, especially with the monsoon season fast approaching.
