With rise in COVID cases, wearing of face mask is mandatory

With the rise in COVID-19 cases during recent days, it is necessary for each one of us to take great care and obey the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) norms in order to remain at a safer side.

Wearing face mask gains great importance in order to restrict the transmission of the deadly virus. However, it has been a common practice to carry a mask only for the name’s sake. Some people either place it in the pocket or hold it in hand while walking their way along the road.

Some wear mask in a faulty position and fail to cover the nose as well. Such a practice turns dangerous to their precious lives. Seen in the picture is an instance wherein a man holds a mask in hand while proceeding along the road adjacent to Almeida High School in the vicinity of old bus-stand in Ponda.

Taking into consideration the tremendous rise of COVID cases in Ponda, the Ponda Police should initiate a stringent drive in this sensitive matter (the way it is done by the Panjim Police), thereby issuing cash fines to persons moving in public without wearing a face mask.

What counts more is the safety of innocent citizens and the concerned authorities should deal firmly with the offenders so as to achieve favourable results in this direction.
