PANJIM: After O Heraldo published a report along with supportive picture highlighting how a stretch of Panjim promenade near city market has become hollow from beneath due to soil erosion and could collapse any time, CCP officials inspected the site and has decided to ask the Water Resources Department to assist in restoring the hollow part of the promenade.
A senior official said that on Thursday, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Naik along with top CCP officials had inspected the stretch of promenade portion that has become hollow and also the main storm water drains leading from City to Mandovi River.
“After the inspection, we decided to write to the WRD. CCP Commissioner has been told to do the needful,” the senior official said.
It is pertinent to note that the laterite stones from promenade have washed off gradually over a period of time during the high tide and the promenade is now losing support from beneath as a result of which it might collapse at any moment.
It is posing a threat particularly to tourists, morning and evening walkers, who take the said promenade stretch daily.
