MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has no dedicated site for disposing non-conforming waste, including thermocol waste generated in the city.
While Fomento Green, which is manning the Sonsodo dump yard, has refused to accept non-conforming waste, the civic body has till date no designated site for dumping of such waste.
Says Fomento Green CEO Sridhar Kamat: “Our stand is clear that Sonsodo will not accept any more non-conforming waste at the site. It is now the responsibility of the civic body to find suitable site for disposal of non-conforming waste.”
Kamat, however, admitted that the Concession Agreement with the civic body mandates creation of a facility for bio-medical waste at Sonsodo on land admeasuring 200 sq mts. “Right now, we have not created the bio-medical waste facility at Sonsodo. Earmarking land admeasuring 200 sq mts to create the facility should not be a problem,” he said.
In the absence of any dedicated land fill site for disposal of construction debris, waste generated through desilting, all the waste finds its way along the ring road near the Margao railway station for land filling.
