The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court at Merces has acquitted 54-year-old Umesh Datta Phadte of charges relating to rash and negligent driving in connection with a 2021 road accident reported at St Inez.
In its judgment, the court observed that the prosecution failed to conclusively prove rashness, negligence, or clear involvement of the accused in the incident. Owing to the lack of supporting evidence, the court noted that details regarding vehicle damage, injuries, and the subsequent investigation were insufficient to uphold a conviction.

With these findings, Phadte was cleared of all charges linked to the case.
