PANJIM: Amidst political mudslinging ahead of general assembly elections, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant slammed his opponents for maligning the image of the State at the national level over issues such as COVID-19 management and law and order.
“The people of Goa will teach lesson to such politicians, who were busy maligning the image of the State nationally through their social media accounts. Politicians should criticise other politicians but not the department officials because they are working round the clock,” the CM said on the sidelines of the inauguration of a police outpost at St Cruz.

Claiming that he is now habituated of facing unnecessary criticism, Sawant further rapped his opponents for picking up issues in an attempt to grab negative limelight for Goa nationally. The CM was referring to his opposition’s attempts of taking to various social media platforms to create ‘controversy’ over spurt in COVID-19 cases, lack of oxygen supply, shortage of hospital beds, COVID-19 deaths, etc besides demands for scrapping offline exams among other issues.
Sawant admitted that there was an issue as far as oxygen supply is concerned during COVID-19 peak. “No one imagined that the demand of oxygen would increase this manifold,” he said, adding that the issue was sorted within two days. “The government’s initiative to create the requisite infrastructure for the health sector to tackle the pandemic situation in the State on war footing, are some of the acts of government deserve appreciation. We have put in great efforts to manage the critical situation of COVID-19 pandemic including loss of human lives. The government has initiated quick and prompt actions for installing oxygen plants at different hospitals to cater to the need of oxygen,” he added.
He also took the opportunity to appreciate police efforts in nabbing a toddler’s kidnapper within 24 hours. “Government is concerned about the health sector, maintaining law and order to provide crime free atmosphere for the people,” he said.
The St Cruz police outpost is spread across 743 sq mtrs and built at a cost of Rs 1.56 crore.
