PANJIM: The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has suspended ore transportation during the monsoon to avoid any untoward incident.
In a notification issued on Thursday, Director Mines Vivek HP has said that monsoon season has started in Goa from this month.
“Transportation of ore by road during monsoon may jeopardise the safety of citizens using the road network in the vicinity of mining leases or transportation routes of such minerals,” he said.
Vivek said that in the interest of public safety, the transportation of mineral by road is hereby stopped until further orders, except for captive/domestic consumption or on specific order of the collector due to the position of jetty vis-à-vis mining leases.
The iron ore mining activities in the State are shut since March 2018. However, the transportation of e-auctioned ore is permitted by the government.
