PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday assured the Assembly that those Nigerians who are habitually involved in crimes in the State, including overstaying despite expiry of their visas, would be deported from Goa.
Parrikar said that action would be also initiated against those Nigerians who are here on student visas, but are not students.
“There are several Nigerians who commit crimes just to continue staying in Goa. Even after expiry of their visa they continue to live in Goa following police complaints,” he said.
The chief minister, while replying during Question Hour, said that the police teams would carry out exercise to find out those who are overstaying. Those bogus educational institutes helping the Nigerians to get student visa to arrive in Goa will also face action, he warned.
He informed the House that 17 Nigerians were arrested last year for drug-related crimes. The issue about increasing involvement of Nigerians in various forms of crime was raised by Congress MLA Vishwajit Rane who alleged that Nigerians are involved in crimes such as drug nexus, rape and murders. Over 100 Nigerians are illegally staying in Goa despite expiry of visa and are involved in cyber crimes, Vishwajit alleged.
